Green Venice - La Venise Verte
is a site unique in Europe. In the heart of the Marais
Poitevin, it was created during the middle ages by
Benedictine monks. Whether on bike, on foot or lazing on
a punt called a "plate" , explore this fabulous network of
thousands of canals enclosed by overhanging verdant
foliage, and discover the many footbridges, locks, fountains,
dovecots, and old washhouses.
Make sure to leave time for a boat trip to one of the islands - l'île de Ré, l'île d'Oléron and l'île d'Yeu, or visit the old port of La Rochelle.
